For his research work, Dr. Niculescu received the ISS Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award (2017), the AIS Best Publication of the Year Award (2013), the Best Conference Paper Award at the INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology (2012). He was included in the Poets and Quants 2019 Best 40 Under 40 Professors and he was also awarded the Brady Family Award for Faculty Teaching Excellence (2019), Linda and Lloyd L. Byars Award for Faculty Excellence (2018) and the Brady Family Award for Faculty Research Excellence (2013) at Scheller CoB, Georgia Tech. For his teaching performance, Dr. Niculescu received the Full-Time MBA Core Professor of the Year Award (2017, 2018, 2019), the Evening MBA Core Professor of the Year Award (2018) at Scheller CoB, and the CETL/BP America Junior Faculty Teaching Award (2015) at Georgia Tech. In 2025 he also received a Provost Teaching and Learning Initiatives Grant as part of an effort to transform business learning through generative AI.
Dr. Niculescu currently serves as a Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management. He also served as Associate Editor for Information Systems Research (2016-2020) and Management Science (2020-2024). In addition, he also served as an Associate Editor for the International Conference on Information Systems and the European Conference on Information Systems, as well as an ad-hoc reviewer for the majority of the top journals in the field. Dr. Niculescu received the Management Science Distinguished Service (2012) and Meritorious Service (2015, 2016) Awards. He also received the Information Systems Research Reviewer of the Year Award (2015). He served as the president of the eBusiness section of INFORMS during 2013. Moreover, Dr. Niculescu was a co-chair of the Organizing Committee for the 2015 INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology and 2016 Theory in Economics of Information Systems (TEIS) Workshop.
In the past, Dr. Niculescu also served as the Academic Co-Director for the Exec Ed Officer Leadership Experience Program for The Home Depot and the Academic Director for the Exec Ed Technology Development Program for Bank of America. Moreover, Dr. Niculescu was also the ITM Area PhD coordinator, a member of the Scheller CoB Undergraduate Committee, and a Georgia Tech Grand Challenges Faculty Fellow.
