In a special Tech Talks Business session that took place as part of the 2025 Artificial Intelligence and Future of Finance Conference, Dean Anuj Mehrotra hosted Andrew Schlossberg, president and CEO of Invesco.

Schlossberg’s Invesco History

Schlossberg has been with Invesco for nearly 25 of his 30-year career in finance. “I’ve been CEO for just a little under two years, but I’ve been in the company for nearly 25 years,” Schlossberg explained. “One of the things that’s kept me at Invesco is how global the company is, how collaborative the company is, and how it brings together intellectual curiosity.”

AI Applications

Schlossberg emphasized the role of AI in operational efficiencies, including asset management.

"The biggest AI applications right now are in operations and distribution," Schlossberg said. "We use AI to produce content like legal and compliance documents. In distribution, AI helps with client interactions and next-step opportunities. The investment side is the most interesting but challenging due to our fiduciary role. AI aids our investment teams by digesting earnings calls and running basic models to inform analysts and portfolio managers."

Invesco’s approach to AI use in investment is optimistic but cautious. The tools are there, and they are being used, but they are being tested and perfected in-house before being rolled out, he said.

Trends in Finance

Mehrotra and Schlossberg’s conversation touched on the democratization of investments and digital assets, particularly with what Schlossberg sees as the biggest use case, tokenization.

“Tokenization takes a building like the Ferst Center for the Arts and, instead of it being owned by one institution, it can be tokenized and owned by all of us in the room in fractional shares,” he said. “The ability to use that technology to make private investments accessible to everyday investors like us is a powerful thing. There’s a lot of work being done in the asset management industry on how to do that.”

Keys to Leadership

When it comes to leadership, adaptability is crucial. “In any leadership role, it's crucial to filter out the noise and take your time," Schlossberg said. "During uncertainty, reacting too quickly can be detrimental. Stay true to your convictions and principles while being agile and open to change. Engage directly with stakeholders, as firsthand communication is more effective. Lastly, practicing empathy, especially in uncertain times, allows you to better address problems and help calm stressful situations.”

Question and Answer

Dean Mehrotra invited session attendees, including industry experts, students, and faculty from Georgia Tech and other universities, to ask questions. These questions reflected current concerns and curiosity about market volatility, digital currencies, and what values center Schlossberg’s daily work.

Schlossberg’s answers were thoughtful and pointed attendees to balance. “I try to be present where I am all the time,” he shared. “If that’s with the family, I’m present. If that’s at work, I’m present. If that’s engaging with you, I’m present.”

Time management and disciplined scheduling have helped him refine how he spends his time with stakeholder engagements as well. “I am constantly thinking about if I am overspending here and underspending there,” Schlossberg said.

When in doubt, Schlossberg’s process for critical CEO-level decision making includes a simple cup of coffee and a walk.
