Arn Rubinoff, principal lecturer in Law and Ethics at the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business, passed away on August 12, 2024.
In 2001, Arn was recruited by the College of Management to teach a specialty course in technology and business. With each passing semester over the next two decades, Arn created a legacy of excellence in teaching and mentorship that has profoundly impacted countless students and colleagues alike.
Arn was known for his engaging instruction in a wide array of courses for undergraduate, MBA, and Institute-wide graduate students, including Business Law, Business Regulations, International Business, Law for Entrepreneurs, Legal and Ethical Considerations in Business, Legal Issues in Technology Transfer, and more. In all his teaching, Arn exemplified a commitment to providing practical, real-world knowledge.
Throughout his tenure at Georgia Tech, Arn was consistently recognized for his exceptional work. He received the Professor of the Year award in 2012, and he was named Lecturer of the Year in 2013 and 2019 by undergraduate students. In addition, he was honored with the Class of 1940 Course Survey Effectiveness Award in 2018 and the prestigious Dean George C. Griffin Georgia Tech Faculty of the Year Award for the 2015 - 2016 academic year. These accolades are a testament to his passion for education and his ability to inspire students.
A dedicated servant leader, Arn served on several Georgia Tech committees, including the Faculty Senate. He was elected twice to serve on the Faculty Executive Board and was called to serve as chair of the board during a transition period. He advised the Georgia Tech Executive Round Table, the Venture Capital Club, leadership and entrepreneurship student groups, several fraternities, and countless others.
Beyond the classroom, Arn was an accomplished attorney with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, technology law, and international business transactions. His extensive legal career included work in capital formation, venture capital, and technology transfer, making him a respected figure in both academia and the legal profession. Arn authored numerous articles on tax and international law and contributed to economic development initiatives, including missions to various countries with the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
Arn was actively involved in the Atlanta community, serving on various boards and committees, including the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce's Biotech and Telecommunications Task Forces. His leadership extended to the international arena as a former President of the International Transactions Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Atlanta Council for International Visitors. He is also the past Chairman of the Board for the Georgia Foreign Trade Zone, as well as a volunteer lecturer in the Education Department of the High Museum of Art.
A beloved mentor, Arn has profoundly impacted countless Scheller students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members through his passion, intellectual curiosity, and genuine care.
