The Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business has been named among the top business schools in the nation in The Princeton Review's "Best Business Schools for 2023" rankings.
Scheller College’s Full-time MBA program came in at No. 3 for "Best Classroom Experience" in the U.S. The ranking is based on data collected from a survey of 20,300 MBA students enrolled in 243 business schools.
For their "Best Classroom Experience" ranking, The Princeton Review surveyed students about professors' teaching abilities, the integration of new business trends and practices in the curricula, the intellectual level of their classmates' contributions in course discussions, and whether the business school is meeting their academic expectations.
Frank Rothaermel, Russell B. and Nancy H. McDonough Chair in Business, offers insights into the importance of the MBA classroom experience. Having taught at Scheller for over 20 years, he advises prospective MBA students to “look for an environment of excellence, collaboration, and inclusivity that accepts students for who and what they are.”
Over the last 10 to 15 years, Rothaermel himself has moved to a “flipped classroom,” where he requires the basics to be done at home, so students are ready to dive into content and in-depth discussion when they get to class. "I focus not on what to think but how to think,” he explains.
Beyond instruction style and curriculum, a high-quality classroom environment hinges on faculty making the effort to know and understand their students. Speaking of his own students, Rothaermel says, “I know where they came from, what they do, and what their aspirations are.”
