VP and Chief Diversity Officer for Institute Diversity, Archie Ervin, presents "Why Focus on Diversity? Because Diversity Matters"
Archie Ervin, Vice President and Chief Diversity Office for Georgia Tech's office of Institute Diversity will host a session titled, "Why Focus on Diversity? Because Diversity Matters." His discussion will center around the demographic, social, moral and pedagogical imperatives of diversity in a democratic society.
Dr. Archie Ervin has served as Georgia Tech’s inaugural Vice President for Institute Diversity since 2010. Prior to his appointment at Georgia Tech, Dr. Ervin Served as Associate Provost and Chief Diversity Officer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1999-2010. Dr. Ervin serves as a member of the President’s cabinet and is responsible for identifying institutional priorities, policies, programs, and initiatives that advance Georgia Tech’s inclusive excellence agendas for faculty, staff, and student populations.Dr. Ervin serves as the President’s liaison for and ensures compliance with Federal Nondiscrimination and Equal Opportunity laws and regulations. Dr. Ervin’s office created and conducts implicit bias training for faculty serving on search, promotion, retention and tenure committees.
Dr. Ervin is a nationally recognized expert and commentator on strategic planning and evaluation for diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. He regularly presents at national conferences and provides consulting services to higher education institutions and private sector organizations on climate assessment and has conducted climate assessments for two nationally ranked U.S. universities.
