Denning T&M Fall Events

The Denning T&M Program hosted 50 alumni, current students, and prospective T&M students at the second annual T&M Alumni Tailgate. Held during the Miami game, the event gave prospective students an opportunity to discuss program benefits firsthand with current students. "The T&M tailgate was a great way to connect outside of the class and network with students and alumni associated with the program," said Keegan Christensen, BSBA, Class of 2013. The program hopes for this annual tradition to continue.

On October 22, 2012, T&M students were given an extremely valuable lesson: how to dress professionally for every occasion. Professional Nordstrom stylists Nicole Guerrero and Lester McCarter were on hand to instruct the students on every aspect of dressing well, from tying bow ties to determining proper clothing fit and the appropriate hem length for pants. The students felt the experience was one of the best trainings they have received thus far in the T&M Program. Allison Smedberg, Class of 2014, said, "I thought Nicole was great and the event went very well!" A huge thank you to Lester and Nicole for facilitating such a productive workshop!

The Denning T&M Program held its annual Ropes Challenge Course on October 6, 2012. Students worked in teams both on-ground and on the ropes and were joined by corporate executive representatives from Capital One. Led by the amazing CRC Challenge Staff, including Cathy Gu, Tamp;&M Class of 2014, the students performed a variety of teambuilding events and had a great time getting to know one another. "Working with the T&M group was a lot of fun, especially since I had the unique opportunity to be both part of the program and to see them from a facilitator's perspective. I think the ropes course was a great way for all of the students to bond and become a more cohesive group," said Cathy.

On September 26, 2012 the T&M Class of 2013 was joined by representatives from each of its 9 corporate affiliates for the annual Business Etiquette Dinner. Held at the Ferst Place Restaurant room, students were able to practice their dining and business etiquette skills in the presence of corporate executives. The students really valued the corporate perspective they received at the event. "Hearing the corporate sponsors' advice, anecdotes, and information on company culture was invaluable," said one Class of 2013 student. A special thank you to those sponsors from Boeing, Capital One, Caterpillar, Equifax, Georgia-Pacific, Home Depot, Interface, Siemens, and Unum who attended the event.

Fond Farewell to Dr. Stelios Kavadias and Lauren Howard

The T&M Program wishes a fond farewell to Dr. Stelios Kavadias, Academic Director and Steven A. Denning Professor of Technology & Management. Stelios will hold the Margaret Thatcher Chair at The University of Cambridge. Stelios also taught the Managing Product, Services, and Development of Technology class, a required course in the T&M curriculum. "Stelios is one of the most engaging professors I have ever encountered. In his class, it was clear Stelios was committed to understanding and mastering the dynamic and complex challenges associated with cross-functional collaboration. I was genuinely excited to attend his class every week, and the practical skills I gained from his class are invaluable. He will certainly be missed," said T.J. Capaldi, CS, T&M Class of 2013.

The T&M Program wishes Lauren Howard much success in her new position as Academic Program Manager for the Executive MBA Program in the Scheller College of Business. We are happy that she will continue to serve the Georgia Tech community through her work with the students in the Executive MBA Program. BSBA, Class of 2013 student Samiah Iqbal summed it up well when she said, "Lauren is someone I could always count on to have the best interests of the students at heart. She will be missed."

On Friday, October 26, Home Depot graciously hosted Denning T&M students, faculty, and staff for the annual Corporate Advisory Panel. Corporate executives from each of our corporate sponsors were able to discuss the program and learn about cutting-edge research from T&M faculty in Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business. Students were given the opportunity to tour the Home Depot facilities and attend a presentation given by Kelly Barrett, Vice President for Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance. Ms. Barrett discussed her career path and the corporate culture and values of Home Depot.

The T&M Program would like to extend a special thank you to Gillan Hawkes for planning the event and facilitating the alumni panel, which was an event highlight for most students.
