The Lockheed Martin Scholarship

For Sophomore, Junior and Senior College of Business Students at Georgia Tech

Deadline:  Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 4 p.m.

About the scholarship:

Lockheed Martin has provided funding for two undergraduate scholarships for Sophomore, Junior or Senior undergraduate Scheller College of Business students. The first scholarship is for $1000.  The second scholarship is for $1500.  CoB students concentrating in any area of business and management are welcome to apply.  Preference is given to students with a career interest in the aerospace/defense industry. Lockheed Martin seeks to build relationships with top CoB students in an effort to recruit these students in the future for internships and/or full-time positions.  Although award recipients are not obligated to work for Lockheed Martin in the future, they are expected to meet with Lockheed Martin to learn about possible employment opportunities.

Deadline: Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 4 p.m.

About Lockheed Martin:

Lockheed Martin is a global security company engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The majority of their business is with the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. federal government agencies. Lockheed Martin's operating units are organized into broad business areas of Aeronautics, Electronic Systems, Information Systems & Global Solutions, and Space Systems. You can learn more about Lockheed Martin at: http://www.lockheedmartin.com/

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

Applicants must be current full-time Georgia Tech undergraduate CoB majors in good standing who have completed more than 29 credits, including AP, IB and transfer credit.  Selection Criteria include: 1) Consistent participation in two or more campus or community activities/organizations, 2) Strong interest in pursuing an internship or employment in the aerospace/defense industry, 3) Excellent leadership and communication skills and 4) Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

To apply:

There are two steps to apply:

  1. Complete and submit the scholarship application form below by 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
  2. Submit the following two documents via email to Anne-Marie DeBacker at Anne-Marie.DeBacker@scheller.gatech.edu by by 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012. Please name all your documents with your first and last name. For instance, your resume would be “John Doe Resume”; your personal statement would be “John Doe Statement.”
  • a resume detailing extracurricular activities, leadership and work experience
  • a personal statement not exceeding 500 words describing, in detail, how your studies, career goals and/or work experience relate to Lockheed’s business and how the scholarship would help you achieve your educational goals. If you have a career interest in the aerospace/defense industry, please indicate this.

How this scholarship affects your financial aid:

Some scholarships (like the Gates Scholarship and the GT President’s Scholarship) do not allow students to receive scholarship in excess of the full cost of attendance. If you are already on a full scholarship prior to receiving the Lockheed scholarship, your primary scholarship funding may be reduced dollar-for-dollar when the Lockheed funding is applied to your account.  If you already receive student loans and are awarded the Lockheed Scholarship, the funding may be applied towards paying down your loans, depending on the type of loan.  All eligible students are encouraged to apply for the scholarship since being recognized as a Lockheed Martin scholar is an honor that you can list on your resume and may give you an advantage when Lockheed and other companies recruit on campus.
