Permits & Overloads

  • Major restriction overrides: Management undergraduate classes are restricted to BSM/BSBA majors only through the majority of phase I. MGT courses opened to non-majors at 9:00 am on Monday, April 22 and will remain open through phase II (with the exception of MGT 4195, MGT 3599, and MGT courses restricted to Technology and Management minor students - they will remain restricted to MGT/T&M students).
  • Overloads: There are no overloads in MGT classes. MGT majors should schedule your MGT classes as soon as your time ticket opens. MGT faculty cannot overload students into classes.
  • Pre-reqs on MGT classes: Pre-reqs are not waived. Please plan your schedule accordingly.
  • Duplicate errors: If you try to sign up for two MGT 4803 (Special Topics) classes, you will get a duplicate error. To avoid this error, request a “duplicate course override” by emailing your academic advisor. Include your full name, GTID and the CRNs of the two MGT 4803 classes in which you’re trying to enroll and you'll receive a permit that allows you to sign up for both courses.
  • MGT 3300 (Marketing Management): requires sophomore-level standing (30 completed credits) prior to start of class. No exceptions will be made.
  • MGT 4195 (Strategic Management): is for graduating MGT seniors only. Students graduating in that specific semester are given priority and permits in the class. Any remaining seats in the class will be open to all other non-graduating MGT seniors who have finished all 4195 pre-requisite courses on Monday, May 13 at 9:00 am.
  • Directed Study/Special Problems Courses: If you plan to conduct an independent study project with a MGT faculty member (called a Special Problems Course/Independent Study), your completed special problems form for Summer 2013 semester must be submitted by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15. Students must have a 2.7 GPA to be eligible for special problems courses. Special Problems form is available here.
  • 36-hour rule: remember that your last 36 credits of your degree MUST be completed AT or THROUGH Georgia Tech. The only way to attend another institution during your last 36 credits is by cross-enrolling at another institution (which means you’re simultaneously enrolled at Tech and another college) or by studying abroad with an official GT study abroad program
  • Internship credit:
  • Unpaid internships: MGT students participating in unpaid internships can earn up to three free elective credits towards the BSBA degree, with support of a MGT faculty member. This credit is not open to non-MGT students. Students pay regular tuition for this credit.
Learn more and download the UNPAID internship form here.  Summer 2013 internship forms due by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15.

    • Paid or Unpaid internships: MGT students participating in paid or unpaid internships can earn up to 12 credits of audit credit, which is credit that does not count towards the degree but helps keep the student in full-time standing at Georgia Tech while interning. There is not a fee for this credit. This credit is not open to non-MGT students. Summer and Fall 2013 internship forms are due by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15.
