Manpreet Hora, assistant professor of operations management, has won Georgia Tech's 2013 CETL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.

He will receive $3,000 and a plaque at Georgia Tech's Faculty Honors Luncheon on April 10. This award, offered through the support of Georgia Tech's Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) and BP America, is open to any nominated tenure-track faculty member who does not yet have tenure.

It recognizes teaching excellence, educational innovation, impact on student lives, and research/teaching connections.

"We are delighted that Manpreet's teaching excellence has been recognized at the Institute level," says Scheller College Dean Steve Salbu. "The Award Selection Committee was very impressed by his creative approach as well as enthusiastic notes and letters they received from colleagues and students."

In making its selection, the committee cited Hora's use of teaching cases involving real-life business situations to exemplify concepts taught in class – as well as the fact that he written several teaching cases (registered under Harvard Publishing and Ivey Publishing), which are used by the faculty at other business schools.

Hora, who joined Georgia Tech's faculty in 2008, is a previous winner of CETL's Class of 1934 Course Survey Teaching Effectiveness Award. He was the recipient of a Rich Foundation Grant in 2011 for incorporating topics related to business ethics into his course on Service Operations Management. Furthermore, he has been invited to participate on a panel at the upcoming Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) conference to discuss the latest innovations in teaching MBA students.
