Georgia Tech College of Management's Huang Executive Education Center and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers
(SCTE) have announced a new Cable Industry Management Development
Program that is intended to advance practical management skills within high-potential,
mid-level cable engineering and operations management professionals.
The program, the newest resource
in the growing SCTE Leadership Institute, will offer participants the
opportunity to acquire or improve the strategic and tactical skills needed to
succeed within corporate environments, plan and execute projects and manage in-house
and external resources. The program is designed to complement the successful
SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Institute at Dartmouth College, which is focused
on the development of leadership, organizational and communication skills for
executives at or near the top of cable’s technology workforce pyramid.
Scheduled to debut May 7-11,
2012, the SCTE-Georgia Tech program is a one-week course that will be held
annually on Georgia Tech’s Atlanta campus. The immersive curriculum will include a broad mix of classes that have a
particular emphasis on the practical needs of cable professionals, including:

“The rapid evolution of cable
technology and services is fertile ground for management case studies,” said Dr.
Saby Mitra, associate professor of information technology management for
Georgia Tech. “Working closely with
SCTE, we are creating a program that brings together timely issues for the
cable industry and a world-renowned faculty to foster the critical thinking and
decision-making that are characteristic of successful managers.”
“The overwhelmingly positive
feedback from our SCTE-Tuck program and the input we’ve received from the
operator and vendor communities have made it clear that the industry sees a
benefit from these educational programs,” said Daniel Howard, senior vice
president, engineering and CTO of SCTE. “Georgia Tech’s ability to combine business and technology into a single
course of study will serve as a catalyst for helping cable engineers to advance
their careers and bring greater value to their employers.”
Applications
for admission to the SCTE-Georgia Tech Cable Industry Management Development Program
will be available shortly. More
information is available on the
SCTE Website.
