Statistics Show College's Growing Academic Impact in Business and Economics

Thomson Scientific’s new ScienceWatch.com site spotlights Georgia Tech for achieving the highest percent increase in total citations in the field of business and economics.

According to Thomson Scientific’s Essential Science Indicators, Georgia Tech’s current citation record in this field includes 338 papers cited a total of 2,278 times to date.

College of Management Dean Steve Salbu calls this achievement “the latest testament to the excellence of our faculty's intellectual product.”

The site includes commentary from College of Management faculty members on some of the most frequently cited research studies:

  • Vinod Singhal, professor of operations management and co-author of “Does implementing an effective TQM program actually improve operating Management Science, 1997).
  • Luis Martins, associate professor of organizational behavior and co-author of "Virtual teams: What do we know and where do we go from here?" (Journal of Management, 2004).
  • Frank Rothaermel, associate professor of strategic management and co-author of "Exploration and exploitation alliances in biotechnology: A system of new product development" (Strategic Management Journal, 2004).
  • Christina Shalley, professor of organizational behavior and co-author of "The social side of creativity: A static and dynamic social network perspective" (Academy of Management Review, 2003).
