New Programs Helping Attract Outstanding High School Students to the College

New outreach programs are helping attract top high school students to Georgia Tech College of Management by inviting them to special events on campus and bringing high school guidance counselors here as well.

On April 2, the College held the first Next Step event for exceptional students who’ve been admitted to Georgia Tech to show them all the business school has to offer.

“At Next Step events, we showcase our program, top students, new building, trading floor, and the amazing undergraduate experience students have at Georgia Tech,” says Nancy Gimbel, director of the Undergraduate Program. “We show that students who were successful leaders in high school find a welcoming home in the teamwork-oriented environment of our College.”

The recent addition of event coordinator Anne-Marie Richards to the Undergraduate Program office is making more recruitment events like this possible.

On April 3, the Undergraduate Program office also held the first Georgia Tech College of Management Spotlight for guidance counselors from targeted high schools in the region.

Because these counselors influence students’ path into higher education, the College of Management wants to be sure they understand that Georgia Tech offers excellent business education in addition to exceptional engineering and science programs.

Jody Ogle, a counselor at Dunwoody High School said the event "was was very worthwhile for me. I learned much about the College of Management that I hope to pass on to our students. I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the College of Management's teachers and students. It's so obvious that students come first in all ways."

The High School Counselor Outreach Program was made by possible by a generous gift from alumnus Whitney Knoll, IM 1970, who serves on the College’s Advisory Board.
