Business language educators from around the nation will gather at Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center April 5-8 for the 2006 CIBER Business Language Conference, where they will explore methods for bridging foreign-language instruction with international business.
Organized by Georgia Tech's Center for International Business Education and Research (GT CIBER) and School of Modern Languages, the conference focuses on "Matters of Perspective: Culture, Communication and Commerce."
Following an opening reception at 6 PM April 5, the conference kicks off at 8 AM the next day with breakfast talks by Jutta Limbach, president of Goethe-Institut International; Ray Clifford, director of Brigham Young University's Center for Language Studies; and Wayne Clough, president of Georgia Tech. John J. Valeri, UPS's vice president of corporate international human resources, will deliver the conference's keynote address during a luncheon at 12:15 PM April 7.
Drawing educators from top business schools as well as K-12 teachers, the conference will feature numerous sessions covering such topics as:
• Various approaches to foreign-language education (interdisciplinary, applied and content-based).
• Using innovative technologies in international-business and foreign-language instruction.
• Understanding markets in the United States and abroad (cross-cultural perspectives).
• Current issues of international business and trade.
• Improving study abroad and internship opportunities for students.
Held for the first time at Georgia Tech, the Business Language Conference rotates every year among America's thirty CIBER centers, which are national resource centers of excellence in international business funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Georgia Tech's CIBER, created in 1993, is housed administratively in the College of Management.
Registration for the full Business Language Conference costs $220. Student registration is $95. K-12 educators are eligible for a reduced rate of $85. View the full program and register online at www.modlangs.gatech.edu/ciber.
