Deadline to Enter 2006 Business Plan Competition on January 30

If you've got a great venture-capital concept and want to participate in the 2006 Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition, then you must sign up by 5 PM January 30.

You can electronically submit your intent to compete at . Held at the College of Management, the February 26 contest is open to all Georgia Tech students and alumni who have graduated within the past five years.

Intended primarily as an educational exercise, the Business Plan Competition often leads to the creation of real technology-based businesses. Since the contest's start in 2001, participants have collectively won $85,000 in cash prizes and $145,000 in services (legal, financial, etc.).

This year's participants can learn more about writing and presenting a successful plan at 6 p.m. February 1 in Room 223 of the Management building, where they will hear from last year's winners, the ImmersiTech team.

Key dates in this year's competition are:

- February 7 (written business plans are due by noon)

- February 17 (preliminary round presentations)

- February 23 (elevator pitch competition, in which each team has only one minute to sell its business concept)

- February 24 (final round competition)

In addition to the overall award and elevator-pitch prize, the competition also includes a most-fundable category for the team most ready to enter the marketplace. For the first time, a sustainability prize will be given this year for the plan that best addresses environmental concerns and/or demonstrates social responsibility.
