Business Plan Competition Feb. 25 to feature keynote speaker David Perdue
Budding entrepreneurs will compete for $75,000 Feb. 25 in the 2005 Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition Finals at the College of Management, and Dollar General Corporation's David Perdue will deliver the keynote address.

After Perdue, chairman and CEO of Dollar General, speaks from 4:30-5:15 PM in LeCraw Auditorium, judges will announce the winning teams, and an awards reception will immediately follow. The lecture and reception are both free and open to the public.

Participation in the Business Plan Competition, which is held annually to encourage the founding of technology-based ventures, is open to all Georgia Tech students and alumni who have graduated within the last five years. Participants receive guidance from successful entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and faculty in the months leading up to the competition.

Five teams are competing in the final round, including ImmersiTech, whose technology helps assess the severity of head injuries among athletes; Intelligent Nutraceutical Company of America, which has developed a new treatment for osteoarthritis; Frontier Sensors, which offers innovative sensor technology; ViraSure, which is commercializing technology enabling early detection of viral pathogens like HIV; and Locate on Demand, whose technology allows companies to affordably track assets.

Last year's overall winner was VirtualBLUE LLC, which has developed a 42-inch by 36-inch digital blueprint that rolls up into a tube. For use in construction projects, the device can save piles of paper and days of time because of its ability to receive updates via the Internet, eliminating the need for shuttling to and from sites.

Perdue's appearance is also part of the IMPACT Speaker Series, which provides Georgia Tech students, alumni, and the Atlanta community an opportunity to network and learn from high-tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business leaders.
