Biography

Sudheer Chava is the Alton M. Costley Chair and Professor of Finance at Scheller College of Business at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. Since 2013, he has served as the faculty director of the interdisciplinary Master’s in Quantitative and Computational Finance (MS-QCF) program at Georgia Tech (a joint program of School of Mathematics, Industrial and Systems Engineering and Scheller College of Business) that is ranked top 10 in North America. He has an adjunct professor appointment in CSE and College of Computing. Dr. Chava is the founding faculty director of the Center for Finance and Technology at Scheller College of Business.

Dr. Chava is the primary advisor for around 15 Ph.D. students who pursue research in Finance (Scheller) or ML (College of Computing) at his Financial Services Innovation Lab. The lab mentors more than 75 undergrad, MS and Ph.D. students across Georgia Tech and sponsors experiential learning projects in AI in Finance and FinTech and Crypto Tokens. The Lab has deep industry partnerships with many financial institutions and launched several initiatives including GT- Equifax initiative, GT - Fiserv initiative and GT - Pathward initiative. Through the Lab, Dr. Chava launched two annual conferences Georgia Tech AI and the Future of Finance Conference and Georgia Tech -Atlanta Fed Household Finance and Fintech Conference.

Dr. Chava has consulted for many major financial institutions and a major credit rating agency. He conducts executive education programs on FinTech for a banks and insurance firms and advises some FinTech startups. He is the co-founder of ZettaQuant.ai.

Previously, Dr. Chava was a member of the Atlanta Fed’s Special Committee on Financial Inclusion and Georgia Tech, Area Coordinator for the finance area from 2015-2024 and Associate Director for Risk Management at the Institute for Information Security and Privacy in College of Computing.

Dr. Chava received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. His expertise is in applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Finance, Banking, FinTech, Credit Risk, and Household Consumption, Debt, Investment, Retirement and Savings Behavior. He has published extensively in all the top journals in Finance including Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Finance, Journal of Monetary Economics and Management Science. Dr. Chava’s research is widely cited in academic journals and practitioner publications. He has presented his research at 100+ universities, academic and practitioner conferences and many regulatory agencies. His research has been nominated for and won many best paper awards and industry grants.

Dr. Chava has taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate, MS-QCF, MBA and PhD level including Banking, Household Finance, FinTech and Crypto Tokens, Derivatives, Risk Management, Valuation, Credit Risk, Management of Financial Institutions, Practice of QCF and AI in Finance.

Dr. Chava's expertise is in applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Finance, Banking, FinTech, Credit Risk, and Household Consumption, Debt, Investment, Retirement and Savings Behavior.
